HELL'S KITCHEN— DBTH has on HK rooftop bar. Highbar to debut in May: "Highbar a new ultra-modern rooftop lounge.. features spectacular views of the Hudson and offers guests an outdoor experience with all the amenities found indoors—air conditioned areas dedicated service professionals and an urban-chic ambiance. Highbar can accommodate 200 guests outdoors... In addition to award-winning cocktails. Highbar will offer a menu of classics from the cook." [DBTH]
GREENPOINT—Gothamist on Habitat a soon to open bar/lounge/small plates restaurant in Greenpoint: "Housed in an old convenience store and built with walk salvaged from as far away as Maine the bar and restaurant will let Brooklynites savor back porch ambiance without having to breathe the air from the nearby sewage treatment plant... Chef Ashley Engmann former manager at Park South and cook at Lotus is putting the finishing touches on a mostly-American small plate menu." [Gothamist]
UPPER WEST SIDE— The Strand Diner last week but it wasn't just a run of the mill shutter—it held a mega sale. Per a tipster: "Currently selling anything and everything (fire extinguishers to plates to vases of plastic flowers) to anyone who stops in. The building (just one story) is slated for tear down. NOHO— A few minor over in Noho: Mercat is looking to upgrade to a full liquor authorise (hello margaritas!) and the restaurant opening in the old Mannahatta lay and is doing business as Superior Restaurant. From the plans it sounds like they ordain have a sweet sidewalk cafe and are considering seating people on both the ground and displace levels. [Noho News]
