USB cam not recognised?

Lets do by the PS eye for now (yes. I'll get one but in a bring together of weeks). I undergo two USB webcams the one for the xbox 360 and an old budget webcam that I used to use on my pc. I can't get the PS3 to recognise either of them. The webcam one used to work it just gives me an error saying no camera is plugged in. Anyone got any ideas?

i got the eye for 13 bucks after trading in FolkLore i beat it and i didnt see a replay to it. problem im having is the red LED doesnt lighten up i have a constant color one but the red doesnt (BTW this cam is so nasty it has all these effects and filters i made a vid that constantly waves and so it gives a strange playback. sooooo hilariouse desire i could upload it somehow

The PS3 supports third party cameras as long as they support the universal video (UVC). Earlier web cameras didn't undergo support for the standard so they are hit or desire on working. I undergo a logitech that works really well and it looks great with its HD video (720p). I'm still on the fence about the Playstation Eye because I don't need to create videos but I'll probably pick one up soon since it is only $39.99.
Yo the 360 cam should work... I used to undergo one but got rid of it to get the ps eye... the other pc webcam just may not be compatible.
What gave you that idea? Since almost everything that can be used with PS3 can also be made by a third party affiliate. I see no reason for them to keep cameras proprietary(is that the right evince?).
